Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-04-24 Last updated: 2026-04-24
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Kalta iOS app (“Kalta”, “the app”) and the sync service that powers it (“the service”). By downloading, installing, or using Kalta, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.
1. The provider
Kalta is provided by:
Ondřej Michalčík Self-employed (OSVČ) based in Prague, Czech Republic IČO: 04801792 DIČ: CZ8801235993
Email: ondrej.michalcik@gmail.com
References to “we”, “us”, and “our” in these Terms refer to Ondřej Michalčík.
2. Your Apple Standard EULA
Kalta is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your use of the app is also governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (“Apple EULA”), available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/.
Where these Terms conflict with the Apple EULA, the stricter provision applies. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
3. What Kalta is
Kalta is a personal home inventory app for tracking emergency supplies. It lets you:
- Create warehouses and organize items in physical boxes with QR codes.
- Scan barcodes to look up product info from public databases.
- Track expiration dates and receive local reminders.
- Share a warehouse with another user via invitation link.
- Sync data directly with a nearby iPhone via peer-to-peer connection.
- Optionally use AI-assisted product recognition with your own Anthropic API key.
Kalta is not a substitute for professional advice about emergency preparedness, food safety, or expiration of medical supplies. You are solely responsible for evaluating the accuracy and suitability of any information displayed.
4. Price and refunds
Kalta is a paid app. The price is set per App Store region and displayed in the App Store before purchase. Your purchase is a one-time payment for a perpetual license to use the app on devices associated with your Apple ID.
Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s refund policy. To request a refund, go to https://reportaproblem.apple.com and select the purchase. We cannot process refunds directly — only Apple can.
Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence (including the EU Consumer Rights Directive, where applicable).
5. Your account
To use Kalta, you sign in with Apple. Your Apple ID authenticates you; we do not store your Apple password.
You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID secure. You are responsible for everything that happens through your account, including inventory changes, warehouse sharing actions, and invitations you generate.
If you share a device with someone else, be aware that they may be able to make changes to your inventory.
6. Shared warehouses and invitations
Kalta lets you share a warehouse with another Kalta user by generating an invitation link. When you share, you understand and accept the following:
- The invitee gains read and write access to all contents of the warehouse (items, notes, photos, inventory history).
- Anyone who has the invitation link and opens it in Kalta within its validity window (7 days) can join the warehouse.
- You are responsible for sharing invitation links only with people you trust. We cannot undo a share that went to the wrong person other than by removing them from the warehouse from the Settings screen.
- Removing a member from a warehouse revokes their future access but does not retract any data they may have already viewed or exported.
7. Peer-to-peer sync
Kalta can sync inventory directly with a nearby iPhone running Kalta using Apple’s MultipeerConnectivity. You are responsible for verifying the device name of the peer before confirming a connection. See the Privacy Policy for what data is exchanged.
8. AI-assisted product recognition (BYOK)
Kalta can optionally assist with product identification using Anthropic’s Claude Vision API. This feature is disabled by default and only activates if you enter your own Anthropic API key in the app’s AI settings.
By enabling this feature, you acknowledge that:
- Photos you scan with the AI feature are sent directly from your device to Anthropic, Inc. (United States) using your API key.
- Anthropic’s terms of service and privacy policy apply to that data exchange between you and Anthropic.
- Costs incurred on your Anthropic account are your responsibility.
- Kalta does not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated product information. Review results before saving.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Kalta for any illegal purpose.
- Upload content that violates someone else’s rights (for example, copyrighted photos, content identifying third parties without consent).
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
- Attempt to bypass the app’s authentication, access data belonging to other users, or disrupt the sync service.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the app.
- Use the app to build a competing product.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the sync service if we detect a serious or repeated violation of these rules. Local app functionality (stored on your device) is not affected by service suspension.
10. Third-party services
Kalta depends on services we do not control:
- Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store, push notification delivery)
- Supabase (hosted database and image storage in Ireland, EEA)
- Open Food Facts (public product database)
- Anthropic (optional, only if you enable AI features)
If any of these services become unavailable, relevant Kalta features may stop working temporarily or permanently. We will make reasonable effort to restore functionality but are not liable for outages caused by these providers.
11. Updates
We may update Kalta from time to time. Updates may add, change, or remove features. Critical updates may be required to keep the sync service working. You are responsible for installing available updates from the App Store.
12. Your content
You retain all rights to the inventory data, photos, and notes you store in Kalta (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, back up, and transmit Your Content solely to operate the service on your behalf and provide the features of the app (including sharing with users you invite and syncing across your own devices).
This license ends when you delete Your Content or close your account, except that we may retain copies for a limited time as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Data backup
Kalta stores a local copy of your data on each device and syncs to the backend. While we take reasonable measures to keep your data safe, you are responsible for your own backups of data that is critical to you.
Apple’s standard iPhone/iCloud backup includes Kalta’s local database and will restore it on a new device along with your other app data.
14. Warranty and disclaimer
Kalta is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that:
- The app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
- Any data you store will not be lost or corrupted (though we make best effort).
- Product information retrieved from Open Food Facts or AI recognition is accurate.
- Expiry reminders will be delivered reliably (local iOS notifications depend on OS state, background permissions, and Do Not Disturb).
Nothing in this section limits any statutory consumer rights you may have that cannot be excluded or limited by contract.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the app or service.
- Our total liability arising out of or related to these Terms is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot be excluded by law, including gross negligence, willful misconduct, or liability to consumers under mandatory consumer protection law.
16. Termination
You may stop using Kalta at any time. To delete your account and associated data, email us at ondrej.michalcik@gmail.com.
We may terminate your access to the sync service if you materially violate these Terms (see Section 9). Where required by law, we will give you advance notice and a reasonable opportunity to cure.
On termination, Sections 12, 14, 15, 17, and 18 survive.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes are announced:
- In the app (a prompt on first launch after the change), and
- By updating the “Last updated” date above.
If you continue to use Kalta after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and, if you wish, delete your account under Section 16.
18. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the law of the Czech Republic, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
Disputes arising out of or related to these Terms are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Czech Republic, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence grants you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
